What’s new in ExamShuffle

Changes to ExamShuffle that you can see, newest first. If something gets in your way, or there is a feature you would use, the contact page is the place to say so.

Word numbering, a formatting guide and a sample exam

  • Exams numbered with Word’s automatic numbering are now read correctly. Before, those questions were missed, and a short exam could be wrongly turned away as a scan.
  • Part and section titles written in one of Word’s heading styles are now recognised as sections.
  • A new guide explains the layout ExamShuffle reads best and how to fix the few it gets wrong, with a sample exam you can download from the guide.
  • No exam to hand? “Try it with a sample exam” under the upload box runs a ten-question sample through ExamShuffle in one click.

Fairer answer keys, a master key and page setup

  • Correct answers are now spread evenly across the answer letters in every version, and long runs of the same letter are avoided.
  • Downloading every version with answer keys now includes a master key: each question from your original, where it landed in every version, and its answer there.
  • Every page footer names its version and page, like “Set B · Page 2 of 4”, so a loose page can be matched to its key.
  • Choose A4, Letter or Legal paper, a larger print size, or compact spacing to save paper when you download.

A proper page for broken links

  • An address that does not exist now shows a clear “page not found” page with links back to the home page, How it works and About.

A new look

  • The home page was rebuilt around a four-step overview, two sample papers with their keys, and a list of common questions, and the whole site has a new look.

Guides for teachers

  • Eight guides on giving several versions of an exam: whether shuffling reduces copying, making versions in Word, keeping answer keys straight, seating on exam day, and more.

Set the header printed on every paper

  • On the review screen you can now set the exam title, school, date, time limit and instructions, and add a name and ID line. They print at the top of every version.
  • The About page now explains why ExamShuffle was built, and the home page answers common questions.

More time, and an easier review

  • Your upload is now kept for eight hours instead of two, so checking a long exam no longer runs out of time.
  • The review screen has an outline of every question to jump around in, and reminds you which questions still need an answer.
  • A spinner now shows while your file is being read.

Even spacing between questions

  • Every question now has the same space above it in the Word file, the PDF and the on-screen preview.
